MilkHub

Since last weekend MilkHub has been through a bit of a transformation. Mostly internal rewrites of some modules, and a couple of new toys have crept in along the way.

Generally

The common sidebar has gone from around the site! It remains on the home page but I've decided to let each section of the site control the sidebar space themselves. You'll notice that the blog and gallery are making good use of this, mods and paste bin will likely follow suit later. Tags are appearing all over the site now and I'll be trying to keep adding tags where I can, they're a great, simple way of linking related items together. Comments are still within the site, there are a couple that have lost the link with their photo/blog entry; if you spot one please let me know.

Blog

The main transformation here is in the sidebar... On the listing you'll now notice the tag cloud (showing the most popular 10 tags) and the archive list. All of the blog posts are now addressed by date as well as their title, but don't worry all of your old links will still work , this change helps to keep the addresses fluid as you look through the archive. When you look at an actual blog entry you'll see a list of related articles and the posts tags. I've not decided whether I like tags at the side or beneath the post yet, thoughts?

Gallery

The gallery has had a massive overhaul, and there's more still to come! The first thing you'll notice is that there are now seemingly more albums, this is becuase I'm now only having one level of albums. Any other grouping that I want is achieved by use of tags. Each album has a cover photo, as I'm sure you can all see. I'm still doing some refinements to the tag views but I think I'm getting closer to what I want. On the gallery home you'll also find a preview of the most recent photo and a list of the most recent albums. I'll be looking to add a related photos sidebar to the photo view later on.

Paste Bin (new)

I got the idea for this module from SUCS. When ever I have some code that I want to remember and/or share I'll throw it in the paste bin. We'll see how successful it becomes. I've also been experimenting with a JavaScript tab approach which I think is looking rather sweet!

Users

Yes, they are still there I've just chosen to remove the link to the page. I think that when you want to get at a user you'll probably be looking at a comment they've made and want to know some more about them, so you'll just click on their name and have a look at their profile. Some changes have crept in here too... When I've been tagging my photos any with a member in them have been tagged specially to refer to them so that when you view their profile page you can see a few photos of them. You'll also find a list of their recent comments and the trusty (but updated) lastfm feed.

Everything else

The affiliates, fortune cookies and phpBB Mods are still here, some small code tweaks and updates as I went through them but nothing worth noting. The last.fm feeds on the site have had a few updates and hopefully the code's a little better; the sidebar module now only shows the most recent track, but where last.fm know what album it's from you'll see the album art there too!

What's next?

I'll be making little tweaks all over the place but I do have a few plans. I'm going to be adding a comment feature on to the mods some where, I'm thinking of adding a tinyurl type feature though that needs a little more thought still. Delicious will be finding its way to MilkHub so you'll be able to keep up on all my recent links. I might also add a site-wide feed that will include updates about everything on the site, not just my blog.
